THE EMIRATI LIFESTYLE

Abu Dhabi holds the cultural heart of the UAE. At InterContinental® Abu Dhabi, you're perfectly positioned to immerse yourself in our culture, learn all about our history and even taste the Emirati lifestyle for yourself. Head to the Corniche to people-watch, visit a culture village or our for an insight into yesteryear, or take in some history through old photographs and artefacts.

CORNICHE

Only a short distance from InterContinental® Abu Dhabi, the Corniche is a social hub on the beachfront. This coastal boulevard is perfect for strolling, cycling or even driving. It’s equipped with picnicking facilities and regularly hosts festivals and markets.

QASR AL HOSN

Look familiar? You may have seen this fort on the back of the 1,000-dirham note. Originally an 18th-century watchtower, the structure was expanded into a royal residence. The watchtower itself remains the oldest standing structure in Abu Dhabi. As for the rest of the facility, it’s now an exhibition space for artefacts, photographs and other historical objects related to Abu Dhabi.

ABU DHABI HERITAGE VILLAGE

Wealth (in the form of oil) has certainly changed things for the people of Abu Dhabi, but traditional elements of Gulf life linger on. This reconstructed heritage village contrasts those changes more sharply. Palm-leaf houses, ancient irrigation systems and even an ox-drawn well remind visitors of how much life has changed for Emiratis over the last few decades.
